an LGBT+ alliance organization

COLOR is an LGBT+ alliance whose mission is to build and serve a community in which all people have the liberty to dream and the opportunity to realize their dreams while earning and maintaining respect.

We believe that the only way to end discrimination against LGBT+ people is to show that LGBT+ people are just like anyone else.  We aim to show this through providing services that benefit the community as a whole.

COLOR incorporated as a 501c3 charitable organization in August 2007.

During our first few years we worked mostly in the marriage equality fight and raised funds for other organizations such as: Ventura County Rainbow Alliance, AIDS Project Ventura County, Ventura County AIDS Partnership, Courage Institute, Equality California and the Mavis Lee Foundation's Father Singh's Bus project.

Ventura County LGBT+ Pride

In 2009, when the organization previously in charge of Ventura County Pride found itself unable to produce the festival due to massive budget cuts coupled with a decline in individual donations, COLOR hosted a small pride march.

In 2010 COLOR organized a coalition of community groups and interested individuals to produce Ventura County Pride.

Since 2011 COLOR has assumed leadership of and responsibility for Ventura County LGBT+ Pride and our VC Pride Steering Committee has, with the help of our tremendous volunteers, made VC Pride bigger and better each year.  Our all-volunteer committee relies heavily on the generosity of our community to keep the festival free to attend.

In December of 2009 COLOR broke ground on COLOR Gardens, a volunteer-staffed farm and community garden organized to donate produce to local food pantries while beautifying downtown Ventura, teaching about sustainable, organic gardening practices and further COLOR's mission.  Since planting our first crops in late March of 2010 COLOR Gardens has donated over 2 tons of organic produce to local food pantries while operating on only a shoestring budget.

In early 2013 COLOR and The Housing Authority of the City of Ventura entered into a contract whereby COLOR manages and develop the community garden at their new Encanto del Mar apartment complex in downtown Ventura.

COLOR Gardens is now preparing to take our garden to the next level by installing fencing, an irrigation system, a community meeting area, and a barrier-free garden.
